Student Life Overview

      Mizzentop Day School provides a caring and nurturing atmosphere engaging students in a myriad of activities inside and outside the classroom.

      Students are given the opportunity to expand their horizons by attending overnight and day field trips, which are interwoven throughout their curriculum.

      An Advisory Program for Grades 5-8 helps students examine topics such as homework, peer pressure, daily life skills and current issues facing all of us; all the while allowing them to work closely with an adult. The Advisor coordinates and communicates with teachers and parents. The program provides a secure environment where each student is valued and respected. The program helps develop problem solving skills and our Living Values Program.

      Mizzentop Day School has created many traditions which showcase our students’ talents and creates a sense of community among our students, parents, faculty and staff. They include:

  • Family Back to School Barbecue – the entire school community is invited to get together to meet new friends, welcome old ones and enjoy some good food.

  • Thanksgiving Boxes – our school-wide community service to those less fortunate.

  • Thanksgiving Assembly – students write and perform songs and skits which relate to history lessons.

  • Winter Concert – annual evening event where students showcase their talents.

  • Art Show – annual spring event where student art projects are displayed.

  • Spring Concert – Lower & Middle School instrumental and choral event.

  • Middle School Play – Performances vary from year to year.

  • Pre-K Moving Up – In June those students in the 4-year-old program have a ceremony celebrating their accomplishments, with the assistance of the Kindergarten class.

  • 8th Grade Graduation – This is a school-wide event as First Grade through Seventh Grade students take part in a celebratory ceremony for 8th Grade students.

      Each fall, Middle School students take part in team building programs. Eighth-graders participate in an additional overnight outdoor adventure program.

      Lower School students are engaged in first day activities and local field trips during the fall.

All students are actively engaged in all areas of the school, whether it is peer-to-peer Reading Buddies, clubs, team building, or community service.
