Letter from the Head of School
Dear Students, Parents and Friends,
Welcome to Mizzentop Day School, where our mission is to “provide a stimulating and innovative educational program dedicated to instilling living values and a love of life-long learning in each student.”What is it that makes Mizzentop Day School so special? To answer this, we need to examine some key words in this statement.
Stimulating: We don’t just teach or present. “Stimulating” implies action on our part that initiates positive action on the part of our students. They become active learners.
Innovative: Much of what we do is not standard or routine. “Innovative” applies to subject matter and its integration, teaching methods, offerings, and the way we educate. Not everything we do is new and unusual. But the combination of what we do and how we do it is unique to our school.
Instilling living values: We don’t just teach or refer to values in general. We take a very clear set of twelve important values and do all we can to assure they are permanently imbedded in our students – for life. There are many other values that are a part of our program; but these twelve are the cornerstone of what we do and are an integral part of our instruction in as many areas and as many ways as possible.
A love of life-long learning: This is essential to our purpose. We don’t want students to just learn. We want them to thrive on learning. We want them to crave learning. We do everything we can to assure that they enjoy learning so much that they never want to stop learning. Smiling faces in the classroom, enthusiasm about their teachers, wanting to not leave school at the end of the day, and expressing gratitude for all of this in each student’s graduation speech tell us that we have succeeded in this goal.
We invite you to be stimulated by our teachers, students and families. We encourage you to experience our uniqueness. We also encourage you to explore our Living Values. We feel confident you will join us and our students in loving to learn – always.
Sincerely,
