Student Life Overview

“At Mizzentop, I felt safe, almost like this was my second home. I knew I could be myself in every way because no matter what I did, everybody believed in me.”

Advisory Program

Our Advisory Program for Grades 5-8 helps students examine topics such as homework, peer pressure, daily life skills and current issues facing all of us all the while allowing them to work closely with an adult. The Advisor coordinates and communicates with teachers and parents. The program provides a secure environment where each student is valued and respected. The program helps develop problem solving skills and our Living Values Program.

Mizzentop Day School provides a caring and nurturing atmosphere engaging students in a wide range of activities inside and outside the classroom. Students are engaged in first day activities and local, overnight field trips during the fall. All students are actively engaged in all areas of the school, whether it is peer-to-peer Reading Buddies, clubs, team building, or community service.

Events and Activities

Mizzentop Day School has created many traditions which showcase our students’ talents and creates a sense of community among our students, parents, faculty and staff. They include:

All School Family BBQ – Every year the entire MDS community is invited to get together to meet new friends, welcome old ones and enjoy some great food.

Thanksgiving Boxes – our school-wide community service to those less fortunate helps by collecting non-perishable food which is then donated to the Community Resource & Service Center, in Pawling, NY.

Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring Concerts - Some of the best nights at school, these annual evening events are where students showcase their talents by writing and performing original pieces of work that celebrate the holidays seasons.

Art Show – Our annual spring event where student art projects are displayed, it is held in conjunction with the Spring Concert.

Mad Science Marathon - Kindergarten through 8th Grade students team up in multi-age groups for an afternoon of physics, chemistry and biology culminating in the all school Egg-Drop competition.

Middle School Plays – Every year our drama program chooses a different play to put together, 7th and 8th Grade students take part in all aspects of putting together a live show, from set production to lighting, advertising and of course, their wonderful performances.

Pre-K Moving Up – In June those students in the Senior Pre-K program have a ceremony celebrating their accomplishments, with the assistance of the Kindergarten class.

100th Day Celebration - Students through the 4th Grade celebrate the 100th day of school with various activities and projects.

Gala Projects - Each class creates a project to be auctioned off during our annual gala.

8th Grade Graduation – First Grade through Seventh Grade students take part in a celebratory ceremony for 8th Grade students.
